Ultralight Aircraft Crashes in Middleboro Woods
A 66-year-old Plymouth man crashed an ultralight aircraft in Middleboro this afternoon.
According to Middleboro Fire Chief Lance Benjamino and Police Chief Joseph Perkins, both departments responded to a report of a plane crash at about 3:14 p.m. today in a wooded area near a bog in the vicinity of 200 Thomas Street.
Officers and firefighters arrived to find that the pilot of the single-passenger ultralight aircraft had already exited it and was unhurt. He declined medical treatment.
The chiefs said it appears that the engine failed on the aircraft, causing the pilot to crash into the woods. They have notified the Federal Aviation Authority about the crash.
Ultralight aircraft do not require registration and can be flown by someone without a pilot’s license.
