‘Summer I Turned Pretty’ Fans Flock to Plymouth Filming

Fans of the Amazon Prime series The Summer I Turned Pretty were all over Plymouth yesterday as the waterfront was transformed into Cousins Beach for the spinoff movie.

Crowds gathered to see their favorite stars from the show, and as videos online clearly show, they were not disappointed.

All three of the major stars, Lola Tung, Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, were seen on the streets of Plymouth—as were literally hundreds of teenage girls.

Plymouth Becomes Cousins Beach for a Day

Filming took over several streets along the waterfront for a single day, shooting scenes that were apparently part of a Fourth of July celebration. 

How the Production Transformed Downtown

Not only did the production crew decorate the streets with Cousins Beach banners, they even had a fake Cousins Beach Historical Society plaque created. That was found affixed to the Old Colony Club building on Court Street.

Though the movie isn’t expected to premiere on Prime until 2027, local fans of the series turned feature film adaption will be able to see some familiar businesses when it does. Many of the Plymouth scenes featured cast members walking down the local streets as if they were just out for a day of shopping themselves.

My favorite part of these scenes is the coordinated extras tasked with walking past the chatting stars. Love that the man in the yellow vest from this video is literally in charge of sending extras down the sidewalk in timed intervals.

One-Day Shoot Brings Big Crowds and Traffic Changes

Scenes were only scheduled for a single day in downtown Plymouth, with traffic rerouted in several spots from 12 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Though having a popular movie film in town is definitely exciting, I’m sure local residents and business owners will be happy for things to get back to normal downtown.
