A restaurant that has served generations of families in Southeastern Massachusetts is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year, and it’s such big news that even a neighboring restaurant is sending well wishes.

Lorenzo’s Italian Restaurant in Middleboro is celebrating 75 years in business in 2025, and one of the other nearby establishments honored the anniversary using its signage on Route 18 just outside of the Middleboro rotary.

Fireside American Grille, an iconic eatery in its own right, proudly proclaimed on its sign: “Happy 75th anniversary to our friends at Lorenzo’s,” calling it “a Middleboro institution.”

Lorenzo’s Was a Taunton Staple Before It Was a Middleboro Favorite

According to the restaurant’s website, the original Lorenzo’s Italian Restaurant was established by Lorenzo Grosso in 1950. It was located at 10 High Street in Taunton, in an area which later became the site of the now-defunct Silver City Galleria.

Lorenzo and Geraldine Grosso set the standard in the area for family-style Italian dining that was as affordable as it was delicious.

Lorenzo’s Moves to Middleboro

The restaurant moved to its current location at 500 West Grove Street in Middleboro, opening two dining rooms, a lounge and a banquet room in 1981. Lorenzo’s Cafe was added in 1994 for outdoor dining and other functions.

Right near the intersection of Route 44, Route 18 and Interstate 495, it became a destination for Sunday dinners and family celebrations for generations.

Lorenzo Gross passed away in 2013 at the age of 91, but his daughter Angela Maffeo and her son Peter continued the tradition Lorenzo began 75 years ago.
