Who knew Massachusetts Democratic U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren was such a trendsetter, even though it took a few years for the "Pow Wow Chow" contributor to emerge as such?

I suppose if you wait long enough, everything comes back into vogue again.

Fox Business reported, "Michelob Ultra notched a major milestone, surpassing all its rivals to become the top-selling beer in America, according to recent data."

"Executives credited its rise to the top, which included surpassing Modelo Especial, in large part because of its heavily capitalizing on the sport's industry's biggest events," according to Fox Business.

It's Been Decades Since Michelob Was "Cool"

Now, I don't want to age Sen. Warren, or myself for that matter, but Michelob, to my knowledge, hasn't been "cool" since the 1970s. Could this mean that leisure suits, platform shoes and Dr. Scholl's are due for a revival?

Liz Warren: Beer Drinker?

You may recall that in January 2019, Warren, still mulling a run for the Democratic nomination for president, posted a live video to her Instagram feed showing her chugging beer from a bottle as she cooked dinner, two things I don't believe Warren does with any regularity.

NBC 10 Boston reported Warren's brewski of choice was Michelob Ultra. Seems Warren was "beer cool" before the rest of us.

Professor Isn't Buying It

Boston University politics professor Tobe Berkovitch was as skeptical of Warren's "just one of the gang" routine as I was, telling NBC 10 Boston, "Elizabeth Warren seems more like a Chardonnay senator than a beer senator."

"It's just sort of trying too hard ... and people have pretty good radar for that sort of thing," Berkovich said.

Michelob Ultra is a product of Anheuser-Busch.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
