Marion Beach Has a Pink Starburst Mystery Nobody Can Explain
You expect to find seashells, sea glass or maybe the occasional piece of driftwood while walking along the beach, but a pile of uneaten pink Starburst candies? That's probably not on anyone's 2026 bingo card.
That's exactly what Marion resident George Jorjakis came across while taking a walk along the shoreline of Planting Island (also known as Planters Island) in Marion around 5:54 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7. Resting in the sand just 16 feet from the road was a bizarre pile of discarded Starburst (still in the wrappers), and according to Jorjakis, roughly 95 percent of them were the pink flavor, with only a few red ones mixed in.
While opinions on the best Starburst flavor can spark heated debates, pink has long been one of the fan favorites (at least, for me it is), making the discovery even stranger. Was this the aftermath of an oddly specific snack break, or had someone intentionally abandoned the candies for the next unsuspecting beachgoer to stumble upon?

A Crime Against Candy Lovers?
"I was just walking on the beach and stumbled upon a horrific scene," Jorjakis said in disbelief. "What kind of monster does this?"
He said there was nobody else around at the time, though one detail stuck with him. "I did see a suspicious Subaru that left almost immediately when I arrived," he said, adding another curious twist to an already strange mystery.
No Accident, Just a Mystery
According to Jorjakis, there was no indication the candy had accidentally blown out of a bag or been dropped by mistake. The pile appeared intentionally left behind, almost as if someone wanted the next person walking the beach to discover it and question everything they thought they knew about humanity.

Whether it was an elaborate prank or simply an inconsiderate act of littering, the mystery may never be solved. One thing is certain: someone walked away from a whole lot of deliciousness and left the evidence behind.
One Good Citizen Saves the Day
Rather than leave the mess for someone else, Jorjakis took matters into his own hands. "I'm absolutely disgusted. These people need to be brought to justice," he said before gathering every last Starburst and tossing them into the nearest trash container.

The culprit may still be out there somewhere, but at least Marion's shoreline is clean again. If nothing else, let this serve as a reminder that even the most beautiful beaches can produce the most baffling and oddly hilarious mysteries.
