New Bedford’s Maria Lawton Receives Emmy Nomination for PBS Show
New Bedford native Maria Lawton and her PBS program just got a huge nod from the television industry.
Season 2 of Maria’s Portuguese Table has been nominated for an Emmy.
From writing a cookbook to having a nationally-viewed cooking show, Lawton's journey is inspiring. She is “still in shock” over her latest accomplishment.
Maria Lawton, from the Azores to the Small Screen
Lawton and her family moved from the Azores to New Bedford when she was six. She was always proud of her heritage and culture, and as an adult, she got busy writing a cookbook.
It was her family’s legacy written out in recipes. She began doing book tours, and with the encouragement of her fans, she ventured into the world of television with Maria’s Portuguese Table.
Success happened quickly. It only took one year for Lawton’s show to be available nationwide on PBS.
