Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is 37, was told she was "too old" to play a love interest to a 55 year old man!

Gyllenhaal, who is a Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee, told The Wrap that she was denied a love interest role opposite a 55 year old man because she was considered too old for the part.

Gyllenhaal was quoted in saying,“There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time. I’m 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of a man who was 55. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh.”

Recently, many actresses have spoken up about ageism and sexism towards women in Hollywood. It is now more common to see male actors in their 40s and 50s to have women costars who are in their early to late 20s. And it's crazy when you think about actresses as accomplished and beautiful as Maggie Gyllenhaal, getting pushed aside because she is no longer in her 20s. Since when did being a woman in your 30s be considered "too old" yet male actors have no problem finding a role regardless of their age?

The ever classy Gyllenhaal decided to not release the name of the project that shunned her and even through all the ridiculousness, she is still very hopeful saying, “I don’t feel despairing at all. And I’m more looking with hope for something fascinating.”
