Lovecraft Movie Rumors Swirl as Warner Bros. Scouts Providence
There are several different film crews in Rhode Island this summer and now signs point to another major movie coming to the Ocean State as well.
News of movies and television shows taping in Rhode Island has been pretty steady over the last few months. The Real Housewives season was rumored in January, M. Night Shyamalan's "Remain" was announced in April and word of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Dicaprio's thriller was confirmed in May.
Now with two of these three projects already shooting around the state, more movie news has emerged.
On July 11, the Providence Journal reported that residents of Benefit Street in Providence found flyers informing them that a film crew was coming in mid-August and looking for properties to use in production.
Flyers Spark Filming Speculation in Providence
The flyers did not name the project that was looking to shoot locally, but they were noted as being from Charlestown Productions and that the film would be for Warner Bros. Studio.
Now those same residents have learned parts of their street would be closed to traffic entirely on August 18th.
Street Closures Coming to Providence
The unnamed movie is planning to film from 10AM until 2PM on the 18th, closing parts of Benefit Street, Angell Street and Thomas Street. It is the property at 110 Benefit Street where filming will reportedly take place.
So what is this mysterious new movie?
There's a chance it has something to do with a long-tabled project from "Game of Thrones" co-creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
The Lovecraft-Warner Bros Connection
Way back in 2019 Benioff and Weiss were set to turn Hans Rodionoff’s graphic novel "Lovecraft" into a feature film for Warner Bros. Despite having writers, producers and a studio on board, the project went nowhere.

Although no new information has been officially announced on the project, IMDb.com lists a film called "Lovecraft" as an in development project for Warner Bros. in 2025-2026.
Is The "Lovecraft" Movie Back On?
With this news about Warner Bros. and the fact that film crews are specifically seeking out homes on Benefit Street, we can't help but think this project is happening.
H.P. Lovecraft was born in Providence and lived in a home on Benefit Street for some time. He also lived on College Hill and Angell Street and was often found writing at the Providence Athenaeum.

The "Lovecraft" movie will explore the concept of H.P. Lovecraft's terrifying creatures being real. Considering he created most of these creatures while living and writing in Providence, making the movie in Rhode Island seems to make sense.
Though currently just a theory from this local movie enthusiast, I certainly hope these hints at a new Lovecraft movie turn out to be true.
