Loren Gets Ready For Thanksgiving With Peter’s Family Orchard
The holidays are rapidly approaching, and once again I am hosting Thanksgiving dinner. However, this year I am having a much larger group of people over, and I don't feel prepared at all. Peter's Family Orchard in Acushnet has stepped up in a big way to help me out!
Here's the thing, I LOVE having people over, I love hosting! However, I am not a good cook. I don't cook because I'm bad at it, and I'm bad at it because I don't cook. It's a vicious cycle!
I always insist on hosting though and every year, I cross my fingers that the holiday goes well enough that my family will want to come back the following year. Last year, I was afraid of messing up dinner, so I enlisted the help of Willow Tree Chicken Farm to make my entire meal. All I did was pick it up, heat and serve. I know, I know, it's not the way to do it...but it's what I did. It was actually very good, but I couldn't take full credit of course, I didn't do the work!
This year's going to be different, and here's why. The great people over at Peter's Family Orchard heard of my Thanksgiving dilemma and wanted to help teach me how to make some delicious homemade items! Sounds good to me, I'm always open to learning new things, even cooking!
So today, I met with Chad and his Auntie Mae, and we got down to business in the kitchen. I learned how to make and can delicious homemade cranberry sauce and canned pickles!
I was a little apprehensive at first, I thought it would be time consuming and difficult, but it was neither! Actually, I loved it! It was easy and a lot of fun! I asked if I could do canning as a hobby!
Chad and Auntie Mae are fabulous at what they do, both in the kitchen and running the beautiful orchard. I was so impressed. We had a great time together and I was able to take some canned cranberry sauce and canned pickles home with me!
Now, I've got a delicious head start on Thanksgiving! I can't wait til next week when I learn how to make stuffing! Stay tuned! By the way, how do you like my pretty apron? :)
