Kari Embraces Her Inner Gen Z, Says Hello to the Middle Part
Ah, Gen Z, the newest generation to influence current trends. As an elder Gen Z born in '97, I both grew up with modern technology and was influenced by my elder Millennial siblings. Growing up, I got the best of both worlds, but to this day, I still see myself following the Millennial trends more than anything.
I've had a side part since I went through my emo phase at 11 years old. I've worn skinny jeans since they really became a thing. And honestly, I'm not one to change my habits often. Even as Gen Z-ers took to TikTok, classifying side parts and skinny jeans as trends of the past, I was reluctant to stray from my ways.
That is, until this weekend. I honestly don't know what came over me, but Saturday morning, I woke up and decided to part my hair in the middle. After a good blow dry, it came time to curl my hair and I have to admit, it was really weird to curl equal amounts of hair on each side of my head.
After all was said and done, I have two thoughts on the middle part:
- It's totally an adjustment having to sweep the hair out of my face from two sides.
- I actually kind of like it.
It took me a couple of days dealing with the middle part, but it's growing on me. Maybe Gen Z was right about this one. Ditching the skinny jeans though? Never gonna happen.
Of course, there's no need to conform to the latest trends and styles just because they're popular. Dress how you like and in what makes you feel the most confident, and the same goes for the rest of your look, including your hair!
Just out of curiosity though... Have you changed your look to meet the new "Gen Z trends" that are popular on TikTok? Let us know inside the station app.
