Here’s Why We Don’t Need a ‘Space Jam 2′ With LeBron James
Space Jam 2 is scheduled to start filming this summer, but why?
The last thing we need is another Space Jam movie. The original is essentially a cult classic. There's a generation of kids that LOVED that movie growing up. I still will drop any and everything if I see it on tv. It's a lot of people's favorite sports movie simply because it's a part of their childhood. There's a harsh reality of the movie, though: it wasn't good.
Space Jam is one of my favorite movies of all time, but on its face, it's definitely not a great film. Michael's acting is mediocre at best along with his other NBA co-stars. The story is pretty straightforward and basic. It's just overall not the greatest film. Its popularity comes from its cult following.
Let's also consider the fact that we have a generation of kids that don't know and don't care about Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes. Daffy Duck isn't the star he once was. I grew up watching Looney Tunes. It fit when I saw they needed the help of Michael Jordan to save their world. It was cool to see the most popular athlete on the planet help my favorite cartoon characters.
If LeBron was looking to save the Bubble Guppies or SpongeBob from an alien invasion, that'd be one thing.
This is a foolish move and a big mistake. It has nothing to do with my deep-seated and seething hate for LeBron and more to do with the fact that this is just going to be a horrible movie. I'm going to be next level mad that LeBron's terrible attempt at this movie will taint the fun nostalgic feel of the old one.
Get out of here, LBJ.
