Free COVID-19 Testing Coming to New Bedford

Starting on July 10 through August, the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center and a roving van will be administering a new free, no-questions-asked COVID-19 testing program in New Bedford.

This new Massachusetts Department of Public Health and COVID-19 Command Center program will be rolled out in eight cities across the Commonwealth, including New Bedford.

Area residents from across Montigny’s district including Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, and New Bedford can walk in or make a testing appointment at the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center. You are not required to be symptomatic or have health insurance. This program’s focus is to increase our community’s public health outcomes and reduce all barriers to testing.

“The decision to select New Bedford as one of eight communities across the Commonwealth for this new testing program is a critical development to protect our community’s health,” said Senator Montigny. “Throughout this entire public health crisis, we have been pushing for more protections and the elimination of barriers for those that need care. Please use this great new testing resource. Getting tested for COVID-19 not only helps you but protects our whole community.”

Montigny also commends New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell, the New Bedford City Council and all of the local state and federal delegation for working closely with SouthCoast Hospitals Group and the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center to ensure that our community has been prepared to fight COVID-19.
