This former Red Sox first basemen led his team to two world series wins, became MVP in 2009 and was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2018 and now he's embarking on a whole new career.

That's right, Kevin Youkilis opened up his own place serving beer and gastropub fare in Los Gatos, a Silicon Valley town. Originally Youkilis partnered with his brother Scott, a well-known restaurateur in California. When Scott tired of the rough commute, Youkilis turned to Reineke, his old college roommate.

While Kevin decided to pursue his dreams on the diamond, Reineke joined the restaurant business. After 10 years in the Major Leagues, Youkilis decided to retire in 2014 when he underwent surgery for a herniated disk. 2 years later, he opened Loma Brewing Company in California.

If you ever visit the Loma Brewing Company, you won’t see any baseball memorabilia around the brewery. Reineke says, “We separate the baseball Kevin and the brewery Kevin. He wants this to stand on its own.” I'm thinking it would be cool to see his memorabilia all over the brewery, but that's just me.  What I really want to know is, do Tom and Gisele visit the brewery when they are in CA visiting family?

The one baseball reference you can expect to see is the Greek God of Walks turning over a new leaf with a beer titled, the Greek God of Hops. Youkilis describes the drink as a 9 percent ABV “big double IPA with floral, pine, and lemon hop aroma and a dry, bitter finish.”

But beer just wasn't enough, he wanted to do more. Kevin is planning on opening a coffee shop in Portland later this year. Along with that he is currently working on getting his brews distributed. Two of Loma's Beers can be bought in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Maybe, you'll even catch Youkilis brother-in-law Tom Brady enjoying a beer at this award-winning brewery.
