Fall River Native Launches Dream Clothing Boutique in Westport
What was once a dream has now become a reality for this young Fall River business owner.
Sophia Teves, 22, has embarked on a new journey, opening her first clothing boutique on March 9. Located on 875 State Road in Westport, SOPH is the latest addition to the area, bringing style to your wardrobe.
Building something from the ground up can be overwhelming for any business owner. For Teves, however, things aligned pretty quickly.
This past February, she received the keys to her new store just a month after officially creating the business.
This isn't the first business endeavor for the 22-year-old. Teves also has a handmade jewelry company where she makes earrings out of clay. She now has an opportunity to merge the two businesses by selling future pieces within SOPH.
Through this experience, she is excited to dive deeper into the business world and learn more about retail and customer service.
Aside from the excitement, the mission behind SOPH is what inspired Teves to take a leap of faith: to create a place of versatility in fashion.
"I feel like a lot of people face body dysmorphia or negative self-talk in a boutique, especially for a bigger person," Teves said. "When they come in here, everyone's welcome; there is something for you."
She hopes to change the narrative of how boutiques are usually established by offering affordable prices and a wider range of sizes so that anyone can feel welcome.
"My goal is that when anyone comes in from small to 3X, they will have an equal shopping opportunity," she said.
Shoppers can expect to see casual everyday wear pieces that can be dressed up or down. They can also find jewelry, small gifts and other accessories.
In the future, Teves plans to create opportunities to collaborate with other small businesses and host events within the store.
SOPH will be open Wednesday through Saturday starting in April. The hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The website, which will launch on April 1, will allow shoppers to place online orders that can be delivered or picked up in person.
