Although spring is officially here on the SouthCoast and temperatures are starting to rise, water temperatures remain bitterly cold.

The folks at the Fall River Police Department are not strangers to getting out and supporting the SouthCoast community, and some officers recently braved the chilly waters to raise money for a very special cause.

Chief Cardoza, Sgt. Joseph Galvao, Sgt. David Delvalle, Sgt. Nicholas Magan, Officer Timothy Magan, Officer Brandon Pacheco and Officer William Platt participated in a polar plunge at Dave's Beach on Sunday, taking part in a fundraiser that helped raise $4,400 for the Special Olympics.

Great job, officers! Thank you for all you do while on and off duty.

Fall River officers Mike Pavao and Derek Amaral recently made headlines when they got out and interacted with SouthCoast kids during the Winterbridge Festival at the Fall River Children's Museum. After Pavao and Amaral came across the festival, they wound up at the craft table, making gifts for the children and interacting with them.
