BROCKTON — A Fall River man will serve time in state prison after pleading guilty to charges that he raped a female juvenile victim that he met online, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced Monday.

35-year-old George M. Wamboldt of Fall River pleaded guilty today to two counts of rape of a child. Plymouth Superior Court Judge Robert B. Gordon sentenced Wamboldt to serve seven to eight years in state prison.

The investigation began on October 15, 2015, when Rochester Police were contacted about the rape of a juvenile female. Through their investigation, police discovered that Wamboldt had had an ongoing and sexually explicit conversation with the underage female victim online. Investigators found that between April 1, 2015 and October 13, 2015, Wamboldt exchanged numerous, graphic text messages with conversation and pictures with the victim. The investigation further found that Wamboldt sexually assaulted the victim on two occasions in the town of Rochester and on multiple occasions in Fall River.

“Today’s resolution takes into account the wishes of the victim in this case and her family and the life altering events that they have endured during the pendency of this case,” DA Cruz said.

Wamboldt was arrested in Derry, N.H. on October 17, 2015 while visiting family. He was indicted on the charges on December 22, 2015. His cases are still pending in Bristol County.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Amanda Fowle and was investigated by the Rochester Police Department, and the State Police Detectives Unit of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
