It's spooky season, and that means it's time for some eerie exploration searching for the spookiest, creepiest and most haunted places in the area.

A new study by SpinBlitz took Tripadvisor findings into account to determine the World's Spookiest Halloween Destinations.

Luckily for us, there's a historic haunt in our own backyard.

How the Spookiest Destinations Were Ranked

The study took into account the following criteria:

  • Traveler satisfaction (those receiving scores of 4.3 or higher)
  • Must be a destination with over 1,000 reviews
  • Haunted reputation: folklore, ghost sightings, etc.

The Lizzie Borden House’s Haunted Legacy

Given a rating of 4.8 out of 5 on Tripadvisor, the Lizzie Borden House in Fall River has been ranked among the top spookiest destinations. It's no wonder it's been featured on television shows like Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, MonsterQuest and Haunted Towns.

Tripadvisor's posting for the Lizzie Borden House reads, "Come visit the location of one of America's most chilling unsolved murders."

Borden's terrifying tale is one that has captivated the world since the infamous murders of her father Andrew and stepmother Abby occurred back on August 4, 1892.

Though ruled "not guilty," Borden's reputation will forever be haunted by the brutal crime, cementing her in murder mystery history.

Touring the Infamous Fall River Landmark

House tours are open to the public daily between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. For those brave enough, you can spend the night at the home on Second Street in Fall River.

Lizzie Borden's Maplecroft in Fall River, Massachusetts

While the house where Lizzie Borden's father and stepmother were brutally murdered on August 4, 1892 may have recently been purchased, the home where she moved after being acquitted for those same murders is on the market for anyone looking to own a piece of Fall River history.
