Netflix’s Next ‘Monster’ Focuses on Fall River’s Lizzie Borden — Here’s Who’s Playing Who

It's an infamous story residents of the SouthCoast know all too well: the double murder of Lizzie Borden's father and stepmother and the mangled investigation that followed.

Though Lizzie was acquitted of all charges, her story was so compelling that it sparked movies, shows and even tourism to her former home in Fall River.

It's been over 130 years since "Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks" and yet the story is still attracting attention, including that of Ryan Murphy.

Who Is Ryan Murphy?

Murphy is a writer and director known for creating some of the biggest shows in television (and streaming) for decades.

From the gripping Nip/Tuck in the early '00s to the smash hit Glee, Murphy has been very successful and is no stranger to the horror genre.

He's worked with many in Hollywood such as Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters and Lady Gaga on his hit show American Horror Story.

Monster Series

Lately, Murphy has set his sights on true-life events.

His crime drama anthology series Monster has covered Jeffrey Dahmer, Erik and Lyle Menendez, and serial killer Ed Gein.

Monster is slated to focus on Lizzie Borden for Season 4. Casting has begun with some big names signing on.

• Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, the stepmother
• Vicky Krieps as Bridget Sullivan, the maid
• Billie Lourd as Emma Borden, the sister
• Jessica Barden as Nance O'Neil, Lizzie's actress friend

Heavily rumored to join the cast is Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam.

The actor is nearing a deal to play Lizzie Borden's father, Andrew.

Hunnam and Murphy have worked together already. Hunnam is currently starring in Monster Season 3, portraying Ed Gein.

Monster Season 4 still awaits a release date, as production has yet to begin.
