We are quickly approaching Halloween season. In fact, if you shop at Shaw’s or Stop & Shop, the season arrived weeks ago with the arrival of Halloween candy.

Carving pumpkins, putting spooky decorations in the yard, and trick-or-treating are all part of our traditions here in America.

On top of the costumes and candy, however, come the spooky movies. Perhaps the most unusual of these is The Rocky Horror Picture Show – a cult classic where first-time viewers are famously marked with a red lipstick “V” on their forehead and everyone gets in on the fun with shadow casting, audience participation, and prop throwing.

A Cult Classic Halloween Tradition

In past years, New Bedford fans could catch screenings of Rocky Horror at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in the days leading up to Halloween. However, ongoing renovations have made that impossible in recent years.

When and Where to See Rocky Horror in New Bedford

Leave it to the New Bedford Festival Theater to save the tradition. This year, it is hosting a one-night-only screening of the iconic film at the Steeple Playhouse on William Street in New Bedford. The event takes place on Friday night, October 3.

Prop Bags and Audience Participation

Prop bags will be available for purchase when buying tickets online from the New Bedford Festival Theater or in person on the night of the screening. No outside props will be allowed. By limiting props to those included in the official bags, the theater ensures a safe and fun experience while cutting down on unapproved prop use during the show.
