Fall River has been home to a historic carousel for years and it has switched hands a few times. It's future is once again uncertain.

Back in 2023, we reported that the Fall River Carousel and Creamery was to be revived and opened by two Fall River businessmen. It's since been open for the warmer months.

Recently, however, the two owners, who both have other business endeavors in the area, are throwing their hands up.

As many know, the actual carousel is one of only a few left that is fully maintained and operational in the world and has moved around the SouthCoast at least once.

While the carousel sees only about 250 average riders a week when it's open, it can see thousands during peak summer holiday weekends.

The current website doesn't have much info on it other than "We Are Closed." Its last post on the Facebook page stated it was closed for the season back in September of 2024. The season closure came pretty abruptly for some locals hoping to get in a one last visit for the season.

It's a tough business to make money off of seeing as you can only charge so much per ride, and maintaining an extremely rare ride can get a bit pricey. The venue the carousel is in isn't brand new either, so upkeep an staffing comes into the equation as well.

While the City of Fall River can't comment due to some legal paperwork on what's next, we are being told that the carousel will ride again and it could be as soon as this spring, pending a sale to a local business owner.

The part I'm most curious about is the ice cream, as whoever takes over will need to be on their ice cream game because we know, the competition for it on the SouthCoast is stiff.
