Luck was certainly on Steven Pereira's side when he pulled into the parking lot of a Fairhaven 7-Eleven to purchase a Megabucks Doubler ticket.

Pereira, who lives in Fairhaven himself, first stopped at a gas station that was closed while trying to pick up a $1 ticket for the game from the Massachusetts State Lottery. He decided to make a second stop at the 7-Eleven on Huttleston Avenue, and luckily he did. The numbers on Pereira's Quic Pic ticket ended up matching the winning numbers for the Megabucks Doubler's March 20 drawing, landing him over a $10 million prize.

Pereira chose the cash option and received a one-time payout of $8,424,485 before taxes. With all that money, there are certainly a lot of great things he could do, and it sounds like he's off to a great start. Pereira told the Massachusetts State Lottery that he plans on using his winnings to pay off his mortgage and help out his kids.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, the $10.04 million prize is the largest jackpot won in a Megabucks Doubler game since March 11, 2017, when the winning ticket sold in Clinton was worth $11.34 million.

Congratulations are also in order for the Huttleston Avenue 7-Eleven that sold the winning ticket and will now receive a $25 thousand bonus from the Massachusetts State Lottery.

Megabucks Doubler drawings take place every Wednesday and Saturday night. Find more information about this game and more through the Massachusetts State Lottery's website.
