NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Following the announcement that he is retiring and selling the property where Yesteryear Cyclery is located in New Bedford, owner Kim Camara took to social media today to clarify the future of the business.

Setting the Record Straight: Yesteryear Cyclery Is Not Closing

“There seems to be some confusion regarding the future of Yesteryear Cyclery,” Camara wrote on Facebook. “WE ARE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS.”

Camara clarified that he is selling the building and property at 330 Hathaway Road, but that the business itself will continue “on a smaller scale.” The business has been in operation for 111 years, starting life as a hardware-bicycle-pet shop founded by Camara’s grandfather, Adriano.

When he made his original announcement on September 19, Camara noted that three of his employees plan to open an offshoot of Yesteryear, offering products and services on a smaller scale.

111 Years of Local History Moving to Fairhaven

Today, he said that offshoot will continue the name of Yesteryear Cyclery, will be located in Fairhaven, and will “be run exactly the same way you’ve come to know and love.”

Longtime Manager Adam Iacaponi to Helm New Shop

Adam Iacaponi, who has been the manager at Yesteryear for 20 years, is helming the new shop. According to a comment on a recent Facebook post, the shop is expected to open in early spring 2027.

“I could not pass the torch of my legacy on to a better human being than Adam,” Camara wrote. “He operates just like me.”

Liquidation Sales Begin at 330 Hathaway Road Location

Camara said even though the new Fairhaven shop will be smaller, it will “have more than adequate current inventory to meet all your future needs.” However, sales have already begun at the original location in order to clear the building for a new buyer. Camara said the inventory is being sold off “at ridiculous prices” with advertisements already promoting 10 to 50 percent off. The plan is to cease operations at that location by December 31.
