We kicked off this year's Food For Tots tour Thursday night in Fairhaven. After raising nearly $90,000 last year, we opened up our 2019 campaign at some of the hottest restaurants in Fairhaven: Pasta House, Frontera Grill and Cleary's Pub.

We opened up with a lunch at Cleary's Pub, which was delicious. The showing was very solid for a lunch crowd. We went back at 5:30 for the dinner crowd and couldn't get near the place. We were thrilled to hear there was a 45-minute wait.

Our next stop was to the Pasta House, which was standing room only. Thankfully, we had made reservations and we somehow found room to eat orders of calamari, Kobe meatballs, and a few other appetizers and drinks.

We finished the night off at Frontera Grill, where some fun drinks were enjoyed, while I failed to restrain myself from their amazing chips and salsa.

Crowds at all three locations were solid, as was the kickoff.

Our participating restaurants donated 15 percent of their total sales to Food For Tots.

Congratulations to the Pasta House and Frontera Grill for leading the league Thursday night They each donated $1500 for Food For Tots. Cleary's Pub donated $1000. George Fearons and Oyster Harbors Marine in Marine made a matching donation of $2500, and Jill Fearons donated $1000. Our total for Fairhaven was $7,500. That exceeds our Fairhaven total from last year by $1,000.

We can't thank our participating restaurants enough for their generosity. Their support helps bring local Boston Children's Hospital services to the children of the SouthCoast.

A big thank you to all of the people who went out of their way to go out to eat last night in Fairhaven. It is so inspiring to see so many giving to such a worthy cause.  As I say on the air, whether you are rich or poor, chances are strong that a child you love will need to visit the emergency room at some point or another. Our community simply can't put a price on the benefit of having the world's best pediatricians caring for our children right here in New Bedford.
