When Fairhaven police officer and loving father Ryan Benoit hit "record" on a heartfelt TikTok last week, he never expected it to blow up.

But when your three-year-old son is asking for a Benson Boone birthday party, you shoot your shot.

The Viral Video That Started It All

The video, originally posted to TikTok on July 8, featured Benoit in uniform sitting in his cruiser while on his break with a personal message for the chart-topping singer:

“Hey Benson Boone, my name's Ryan. I'm a police officer at a small town in Massachusetts and this is my son Ryder. Ryder's one of your biggest fans… He's asked if he wants a different kind of party, a more traditional kid's party, and every time he says no. He says, ‘I want Benson Boone.’”

Benoit went on to invite Boone to Ryder’s upcoming birthday party in September, even noting that an invitation had already been sent in the mail. It was a long shot, sure, but one posted straight from the heart.

By the next morning, views were skyrocketing. Thousands turned to tens of thousands, and within a day the video cracked 100,000 views and kept climbing and is now around 750,000. Among the crowd of commentors was the official account for Slim Jim, a few verified accounts, and most importantly, Benson Boone himself.

A Message Straight From the Heart

On July 9, Boone surprised everyone by replying to the original TikTok:

“Well I think I’ve got some good news for you and Ryder," Boone posted.

Cue the waterworks.

“I wasn’t expecting any of this,” Benoit told Fun 107. “I didn’t do this for tickets or attention. This was for my son. Benson’s music makes him light up, and I would do anything to keep that smile on his face.”

Why Ryder Loves Benson Boone

Ryder, who turns four in September, first discovered Boone’s music while listening to Fun 107. It started with “Beautiful Things” but his current favorites include “Mystical Magical” and “Here For Someone.” According to his dad, Ryder belts them out like he's on stage with the star himself.

Benson Boone is scheduled to perform in Boston at TD Garden on September 2 – just one day before Ryder's birthday.

A Birthday Wish Worth Waiting For

Whether the singer shows up to the party or surprises Ryder in another way, one thing’s clear: Benson Boone heard the call.

Sometimes, shooting your shot is worth it. Stay tuned for part two to see what Boone's team has lined up for Ryder.
