OK, who's coming with me on a road trip to Portland, Maine? I grew up on a whole lot of Dr. Dre. From his days with N.W.A. to when he split off on his own, to when he launched the careers of a couple of unknown rappers named Eminem and Snoop Dogg, I consider Dre one of the godfathers of hip hop.

When I saw that An Orchestral Rendition of Dr. Dre was coming to Portland, Maine, I was intrigued. I couldn't imagine what the music of Dr. Dre would sound like played by an orchestra, but it is amazing. Hearing songs like "Dre Day," "The Next Episode" and "Still Dre" played by a live orchestra reminded me a whole lot of the feel of Hamilton when I saw the show at the Providence Performing Arts Center.

It's important to note that the event makes it crystal clear that Dr. Dre will not be there.  The tour's Facebook event page describes the show as a "combination of a traditional Orchestra merging with a modern live hip-hop music event." The music is performed by one of the UK's top orchestras. The tour brings in a group of DJs, different rappers and singers to combine with the orchestra, and all of their talents bring you back to that influential West Coast sound that dominated the '90s.

The show arrives in Portland, Maine on April 4.

Here's where it gets interesting: NOWHERE on the tour's website does it give an address or a venue of where this show is happening. My only guess is that the promoter hasn't secured a venue yet.

Either that or the promoter has smoked a little too much chronic.
