DIGHTON — On Wednesday, Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School was put on lockdown for the second time this week after live bullets were found in a school bathroom.

Dighton and Rehoboth police said in a joint release with school district officials that there is no specific, credible threat or danger to the school, but the investigation is ongoing.

The high school was also put on lockdown on Tuesday after threatening graffiti was found in the same boy's bathroom.

Police said at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, both Dighton and Rehoboth departments responded to the school after a student found two live rounds of ammunition in the lavatory and reported it to school administrators.

The school was placed under lockdown and K-9 units from Rehoboth, Dartmouth, Fall River and Providence police departments and the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office arrived to search the premises.

No other suspicious items were found in the building during the search, police said.

The lockdown was lifted around three hours later at 12:30 p.m. — but according to police, a faulty smoke detector sounded a fire alarm around two minutes later, resulting in the safe evacuation of students from the building.

Police were present with the students at all times outside until students and staff returned to the school around 20 minutes later.

On Tuesday, a report of threatening graffiti discovered in the same boy's lavatory also resulted in the school being placed under lockdown out of an abundance of caution, police said.

Officers responded to investigate, but the threat was deemed not credible.

Both incidents remain under joint investigation by Dighton and Rehoboth police.

The departments are also looking into whether the incidents could be related.

“The safety of our school students and staff is our top priority and we will do everything we can to thoroughly investigate these threats,” Dighton Police Chief Robert MacDonald said.

“We would like to remind the community that we take all threats such as these seriously as they are a huge disruption to our school community and we will pursue this until charges are filed.”

Anyone with information about either incident should call Dighton police at 508-669-6711 or contact school officials.
