TAUNTON — Starting at the end of August, traffic patterns will change at the Route 24/Route 140 interchange in Taunton as three bridges will be demolished and reconstructed, according to the state's transportation department.

The changes will be implemented overnight on Aug. 28 and 29, and the new traffic patterns will be in effect through June 2024, MassDOT said in a release Thursday.

Drivers should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution, the agency stated.

Work changing the flow of traffic through the interchange will take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28 and Monday, Aug. 29.

Once that work is completed, the new pattern will continue until the bridge reconstruction project is completed — currently slated for mid-2024.

All Route 24 northbound travel lanes through the work zone will shift to the west, to the paved median, as crews complete the demolition of the three bridges.

The scheduled work is weather dependent and may be changed in an emergency, the state agency noted.
