Michael Dutra had survived a liver transplant in the early 90's, he had become a nurse, and recently dealt with other medical issues.  The 58-year-old Middleborough man was also the father of two daughters. Michelle and Shannon Dutra are now dealing with the loss of their dad, and are finding it very difficult to put closure on his tragic death.

Mr. Dutra was riding his bike home on Wood Road in Middleborough last Friday night when he was struck and killed. The driver never stopped. Police have found some debris at the scene they say belongs to a light color Jeep Grand Cherokee between the model years of 2005 and 2009.  No one has come forward as of yet.

I spoke to Amber Dutra, who is the niece of Michael. She told me that her cousins Michelle and Shannon not only lost their dad last Friday night, they lost their best friend. The two young women watched him fight for his life last year during his various health problems.  Now he was taken away and they just understand why this happened.  They are looking to the public for some answers. Michelle and Shannon were always taught by their late father to "do the right thing."

If you have any information please call the Middleborough police at (508) 923-4636.
