Dartmouth Police Join Program to Help Drivers With Autism

DARTMOUTH (WBSM) — The Dartmouth Police Department has joined the Blue Envelope Program.

The program allows people with autism spectrum disorder to place their driver’s license, registration and insurance card in a blue envelope, which can be handed to a police officer in the event of a traffic stop.

Outside the envelope will be specific instructions for the driver’s diagnosis, impairments, triggers, emergency contact information and best communication practices.

The envelopes are available to the public in the lobby of the Dartmouth Police Department, 1390 Tucker Road, and can be picked up at any time.

Dartmouth isn't the only local police station to join the program. Marion is among the communities also joining the effort.
