What do Route 6 traffic and Dunkin’ have in common?

They both played a huge role in the delivery of Danya and Rebecca Mahota’s baby girl.

The Brewster couple were on the way to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth when plans took an unexpected turn.

Rebecca wasn’t going to have a typical delivery. She would give birth to Summer Mahota on the side of the highway on Cape Cod and recover in the parking lot of a Dunkin’.

Baby Delivery on Route 6 in Cape Cod

Danya shared the incredible story on Youtube, where he described the heart-pounding moment he realized he would have to deliver his daughter Summer.

Rebecca’s contractions came on fast as the couple began their drive to the hospital.

Twenty-six minutes later, they ran out of time.

“I didn’t even have time to call 911. It was time to meet Summer,” Danya said. “I pulled the car over to the side of the highway, jumped out, and ran around to her side. We worked as a team to safely deliver our daughter on the side of the highway in just a few heart-pounding minutes.”

Danya recalls weaving in and out of traffic that morning. He gave “sincere apologies” online to the westbound vehicles on Route 6.

“When it’s time to have a baby, you get your a** to the hospital as fast as you can,” he said.

While the Cape Cod traffic whizzed by, Danya and Rebecca worked together and safely delivered Summer from the passenger seat of their vehicle.

“I fell in love with my wife all over again,” he said.

Special Delivery at the Dunkin' in Sagamore

Rebecca shared her own story online.

"Even with the emergency hazards, the flickering of the headlights and beeping, it became clear we were adding vehicular birth to our resumes," she said.

Rebecca used a quilt knitted by her mother to clean off the baby and they headed for the Dunkin’ parking lot in Sagamore Beach, where paramedics and police arrived to bring Rebecca and Summer to the hospital.

“They handed me a sterilized X-Acto knife, and I, like every Massachusetts father, cut my baby’s umbilical cord in a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot,” Danya told The Cape Cod Times.

It’s a tremendous story of a woman’s strength and a husband’s love.

And a baby’s determination to join the world when she was good and ready.
