Cape Cod’s Ice Cream Boat Takes Mobile Food Business Out to Sea
If you have had the opportunity to go out on the water in Cape Cod, you've likely seen this business- and it's genius.
We talk a lot about food at the Fun107 office and last week we started talking about these two kids we saw out on the water with their ice cream boat- aptly named, The Ice Cream Boat. Fast forward a week and we saw the television show BizKids feature The Ice Cream Boat on their page!
'The Ice Cream Boat' was founded in July of 2008 and has since been serving the three bay areas of Cotuit, MA. The first model was fitted with K-Mart coolers packed with dry ice, and as some of you may remember, the ice cream was so cold that your tongue would stick to it. Since then, the boat has undergone some serious improvements. Currently we have two 350 pound "cold plate freezers" installed on both of our boats, which is capable of holding around 700 ice cream bars each. That, along with the aesthetic improvements of a sun canopy, a hanging menu board, and a spiffy paint job, has put The Ice Cream Boat in better shape than ever.
It's a very clever business because where else will you buy snacks when your boat runs out. Further more, I watched these kids make a BOAT-LOAD during the 4th of July Fireworks display and have never forgotten them. Kids. What will they think of next?!
