Remember When? JoJo Lied About Cape Cod Home On ‘MTV Cribs’
Singer and songwriter JoJo has been busy this year as she works her way back into the limelight of the music industry.
Joanna Noëlle Levesque reached stardom in 2004 at the young age of 13 with her hit single “Leave (Get Out)”, and to this day, the song brings joy to millennial girls around the world.
JoJo is showing her fans that she isn’t a one-hit wonder, however, as she continues her resurgence in pop music.
Most recently, she joined Demi Lovato for Lovato’s new holiday special and treated fans to a rendition of ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’, and while I am all for the JoJo resurgence, I’ll never forget her appearance on the MTV series Cribs, when she showed off her Cape Cod home.
Turns out, it wasn’t even her home.
If you were a celebrity in the early 2000s, you most likely landed an episode on MTV Cribs. It was the quintessential show for millennials who didn’t have social media to see how the other half lived. We depended on MTV Cribs to see what having a celeb status really meant.
In JoJo’s case, her celeb status had just begun, but she was such a hot commodity, MTV wasted no time in getting her on the show.
It wasn’t until ten years later that the superstar admitted that her so-called “crib” wasn’t even hers.
Back in 2015, she shared with the Huffington Post that the Cape Cod home she flaunted in her 2004 episode was actually her uncle’s home.
“The thing is, we didn’t have a home at that point,” said JoJo. “My mom and I were living out of suitcases and we were mostly in hotels. So that was actually my uncle’s house, on the Cape.”
I vividly remember, at the age of 9 years old, watching her episode and thinking, “Wow! A celebrity lives an hour away from me!”
But I guess it was all a lie.
To be fair, the singer did grow up in Massachusetts, and I’m sure in 2023, she would be able to showcase her own swanky home after almost 20 years in the industry.
Cape Cod may have never been her true hometown, but JoJo is still a proud "Mass girlie" and has certainly come a long way since that MTV Cribs moment.
