Cape Traffic Relief: Bourne Bridge Fully Open Again
Hallelujah!
Bourne Bridge Fully Reopens
After weeks of bumper to bumper traffic, angry drivers and continuous construction, the Bourne Bridge is finally fully open. Just in time for Memorial Day Weekend, all lanes of traffic to and from the Cape will be usable after weeks of construction work led to lane closures on each side of the bridge.
Weeks of Cape Traffic Frustration
Day after day, Route 25 resembled a parking lot as drivers grew impatient and frustrated posts filled social media feeds.
Now, morning drivers can look forward to their commutes going back to normal.

For example, a commute that normally took 20 minutes stretched beyond an hour, even close to 90 minutes at times. Some even extended their drive, taking the Sagamore Bridge just to keep moving and have a shorter delay.
Granted, we knew the work was coming. A news release went out at the end of April, alerting the public of lane restrictions and sidewalk closures.
Now, a week ahead of schedule, the work has wrapped.
Bourne Police Share the Update
In the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday, May 13, the Bourne Police Department took to Facebook to share the good news.

"Some pictures don’t need many words," the department said, sharing a photo of the open bridge.
Memorial Day Travel Gets Easier
"Cones/barrels removed from Bourne Bridge. There will be some daytime sign/construction equipment removal," the post read.
Bourne Police also thanked the community for their patience during these last few weeks.
