The Rhode Island Department of Health has closed Bristol Town Beach after a sewer leak was discovered nearby.

According to the RIDOH website, the Town of Bristol is closing their town beach inside Colt State Park on Asylum Road due to contaminated water.

A small leak in the sewer line near the parking lot was recently discovered and it did affect the quality of the water.

Health officials write that the

discharges have been contained, repairs are being made, and disinfection has taken place."

Still they are keeping the beach closed to swimming for an undetermined amount of time as they continue to monitor the water quality.

When the water quality returns to safe levels, beach-goers will once again we allowed to swim.
