Boston Burrito Spot Now a National Treasure
Boston has many historical sites and now a location of a very popular chain burrito spot can be added to the list.
Boston's Freedom Trail has numerous locations that have been added to the National Register of Historic Places, but the latest to make the list may seem a little peculiar.
Dating all the way back to the year 1711 is a building at the corner of Washington and School Streets in the heart of Boston. It became a bookstore in 1828 called Carter and Hendee.
To continue the legacy, a young man from New Hampshire named William Ticknor began leasing the space and would later rename the bookstore to Ticknor and Company.
Over the course of the next few decades the bookstore would change names and began printing and publishing books, mostly reprints of British books, but also had its share of authors from Massachusetts as well.
Its longest-lasting name was the Old Corner Book Store and much of Boston may have passed through this corner store.
As you can imagine, there is a pretty lengthy history of this building.
Fast forward a few hundred years, the building still stands but is currently occupied by the very popular burrito chain Chipotle.

As we know, rents in Boston aren't cheap and I can imagine that being as historical as it is, renting space in this particular building is probably pretty high. That's a lot of burritos. Maybe they should have a hybrid retail space; "Books and Burritos" has a nice ring to it, no?
I wonder if the workers serving up that deliciousness know the importance of the building they work in?
