Since opening day is today, here are some pointers on where to sit to catch a foul ball.

Research has been done to find out which seats in Fenway park are the best to sit in order to catch a foul ball. According to the Boston Globe, last year they sent researchers to 10 games and had them record every foul ball made.

In 10 games, they recorded about 22.8 per game and 228 foul balls in total. The fouls seem to land in particular areas depending on who is hitting them. Most of the players have their own technique while going up to bat, which means majority of their foul balls will swing in a particular direction.

For David Ortiz, he tends to hit mostly to his left and they are either in the first two rows or last two. Dustin Pedroia hits majority to the right while Mike Napoli tends to be the most scattered. Mookie Betts definitely has the most pattern, hitting most of his foul balls towards the third to last row on the left.

Overall, it seems that the best place would be the entire third to last row where Betts tends to hit his fouls. Out of 10 games, over 6 fouls ended in that row. So next time you and the kids decide to go to a Red Sox game, be sure to buy your tickets in one of those sections.
