Avril Lavigne Recovering From Lyme Disease
A few months back I remember reading something from Avril Lavigne on Facebook asking for prayers. She didn't specify why, but mentioned that something was going on in her life and any positive thoughts or prayers sent her way would be appreciated.
I thought maybe her marriage to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger was in trouble, but it turns out she has been battling Lyme Disease. She opened up about her battle with People magazine, saying that she was celebrating her 30th birthday last fall with friends, even after months of feeling sick. She didn't really get to celebrate much, because she felt so bad, that she had to leave the celebration to go lay in bed. One of her friends asked her what was wrong, but she didn't know.
I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move, I thought I was dying.
She said there were times where she couldn't even stand up and that she sometimes had to skip showers for days at a time because she would have fallen over.
She had seen doctors for symptoms of lethargy and lightheadedness, but no one could pinpoint what was going on with her. Avril told People, "I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move, I thought I was dying." Finally, after months of not knowing what was wrong and why she felt so sick, she got the diagnosis: a severe case of Lyme Disease.
She says she thinks it came from a bug bite she got in the Spring of 2014, but had no idea something so severe could come from a bug bite. Her mom moved into her home to help take care of her, and her husband came home when he could, during breaks from his tour with Nickelback.
After being bedridden for five months, she is finally starting to feel better. She says she feels about 80 percent better and is looking forward to getting back to work and putting out some new music.
"This was a wake-up call," she says, "I really just want to enjoy life from here on out."
