A scare in Downtown New Bedford Thursday evening after a suspicious package was found near the Post Office on Pleasant Street. Police and firefighters closed-off a four block area while a hazmat team was called in.

After taking X-rays of the large envelope that arrived with no markings and contained an unknown object, officials determined there were no explosives or hazardous materials inside what turned out to be a wallet.

According to District Fire Chief Scott Kruger "This is a pretty routine incident...We've trained on this...and we have plenty of experience with it."  Police cleared the scene around 8:30 p.m.
