Acushnet Student Dresses Like Science Teacher for Superhero Day

Sometimes, superheroes don’t wear capes, and for one Acushnet student, her superhero teaches Science class.

For Superhero Day at Ford Middle School, sixth grade student Gabby Gomes decided to dress up as Mrs. Plaud, proving that teachers are so much more than their degree.

“Gabby is obsessed with her science teacher Mrs. Plaud,” said her mother, Kerri Gomes.

When Superhero Day came around, Gabby wasn’t asking for a Wonder Woman costume; she asked for a trip to the store in search of Scooby-Doo socks and a Peanuts tee like Mrs. Plaud. She even sprayed her hair red, because according to Gabby, Mrs. Plaud is a “ginger.”

“To my teacher friends, please give yourselves a huge pat on the back,” Gomes said. “Many teachers have gone above and beyond for these children. It does not go unnoticed and is much appreciated.”

I am far removed from elementary school, but I will always remember the teachers that went above and beyond the curriculum to make school enjoyable. I will never forget how my first-grade teacher Mrs. Barone let us release the butterflies after a lesson on metamorphosis with caterpillars, or how my fourth-grade teacher Mrs. Ellis pulled a prank on the entire class for April Fool’s Day.

It is a special thing when a child is motivated by the love and effort of a teacher. They are an extremely positive influence on our children’s lives, and I am sure Mrs. Plaud was flattered by this grateful student’s gesture.

Keep being incredible superheroes, teachers. It does not go unnoticed.
