ACUSHNET (WBSM) — Police responded to the New England Farms gas station in Acushnet recently in response to a report of an armed robbery involving a firearm.

The incident happened at the Main Street location on Friday, June 21 around 10 p.m.

The suspect was reportedly dressed in all black with his sweatshirt hood up. He was wearing a mask covering the lower portion of his face and gloves.

Police said that he immediately showed a firearm and demanded money from the clerk. After receiving the cash from the register, the suspect exited the store and headed toward Wing Road.

Officers later associated the suspect with a nearby home on Main Street. They searched the home and found James E. Stanzione, 26, hiding in a bedroom closet.

Stanzione was arrested and charged with robbery while armed with a firearm and masked. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said that among the items recovered were the cash believed to be from the robbery, as well as the clothing and the Glock replica BB pistol used in the robbery.

Stanzione was also arrested on three unrelated outstanding arrest warrants.

He was scheduled to be arraigned today in New Bedford District Court.
