A Fun and Local Big Night Out for Kids Who Like to Ski

If you're thinking that you've got to travel to New Hampshire, Vermont or Maine to get some skiing in for the kids this February school vacation break, think again.

Our family likes to ski. We have become big fans of North Conway, New Hampshire over the years and love everything about the town, outdoor activities, ski resorts and summertime excursions, too. But honestly, we can't just take a day trip to Attitash or Cranmore Mountains anytime we want to. I mean, it's definitely a weekend trip at least.

We also enjoy going to Wachusett Mountain for the day. which is right here in Massachusetts and only about an hour and 20 minutes from home. It's a fun mountain to ski but during vacation weeks, man is it packed.

One place we've never tried and are totally going to this upcoming February break is The Big Night Out at Blue Hills Ski Area in Canton.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't know about Blue Hills, but honestly, I just figured it's kind of a tiny mountain that would be mediocre at best. From what I'm hearing lately, I was totally wrong. Blue Hills in Canton offers so many fun activities – for the kids especially – including night skiing, which is so much fun. I think my boys will love it.

The best part about all of this? Blue Hills is literally 40 minutes from our home here on the SouthCoast. Since we're not going away-away for this school vacation, we are planning a bunch of staycation-type daily activities for us and the kids. This fits in perfectly with our plans. I'll be sure to follow up with how the day – or I should say night – skiing rates at Blue Hills in Canton.
