A new mural has popped up in Fall River, paying homage to the Flint neighborhood and the city itself.

The mural was created by a nonprofit organization called YEAH Corps which is working hard to change the lives of underprivileged teens in the area.

By using the power of art, local teens are beautifying the city of Fall River not only by making a living but also by making a difference in the community.

What Is YEAH Corps?

Youth Experience Artistic Hope, or YEAH! Corps, empowers youth through art and design. The non-profit organization aims to employ under-resourced youth, empowering them to be change-makers in their community.

“We get a lot of teens who have never touched a paintbrush, so we teach them how to design and draw, and how to turn a big picture into a big mural,” said Sarah Martins, the Programming and Project Director for YEAH CORPS. “These teens are under-resourced, coming from low to middle-income families, and we are getting them jobs that have an impact on the community.”

Some of the projects are for local businesses, and some are simply for the beautification of the city.

“We do murals, we do utility boxes around Fall River, we do storybook signage for (walking) trails…anywhere that can have lively paint, we do it,” said Martins.

YEAH CORPS Latest Project

The teens of YEAH! Corps recently completed a mural in the Flint neighborhood.

“The mural is dedicated to the Notre Dame church that burned down,” said Martins. “Behind the mural was giving homage to Flint, as well as showcasing education and elements of the city.”

The teens are currently hard at work on the streets of Flint as they paint new crosswalks inspired by one of the member’s sketches.

Everything that is completed by YEAH Corps is done by the teenagers. For many, it’s their first paid job and they get to make a difference in the process.

YEAH Corps is changing the lives of so many young individuals in the Greater Fall River area and hiring for the fall season is happening soon.
