It's that time of year again, back to school, time to take the kids shopping for clothes and school supplies.

Have you thought about getting them a bulletproof backpack?

I can't believe I'm even writing about something like this. This is definitely a sign of the times. Currently, stores like Office Max and Office Depot are selling bulletproof backpacks to protect students in the event of a school shooting.

Thinking about my days walking through the halls of the old Normandin or Blue House at New Bedford High School, it never crossed my mind that I should be wearing bulletproof anything. I can recall being in a pretty safe environment to learn, laugh, and grow. The only type of backpack I wanted was the L.L. Bean one that everyone had with their name monogrammed on them. I'm pretty sure I still have the bag, too! Best $60 spent for sure.

Now in order to feel safe, we may need to start thinking about purchasing a bulletproof backpack that could run you anywhere from $120 to $200.

I don't know about you, but if I were in school these days, I'm not spending that kind of money on a backpack. Not only is that expensive, but if you are getting a bulletproof backpack, you might as well get bulletproof clothes.

Do you think you would get this backpack for your kids? Do you think it's necessary? I would love to hear what you think. If this item becomes a necessity to keep our kids safe at schools then shouldn't it be a little more affordable?
