It has been announced that when the San Antonio Stars conclude their season this year, their star point guard, Becky Hammon, will trade in her sneakers for a clip board. What might be most surprising about this move, however, is that Hammon will be using that clipboard to help draw up plays for the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant head coach for the defending world champions.

That's right, the WNBA superstar is set to be the first ever woman to hold the position of a full-time, paid assistant head coach in the NBA. The groundbreaking move comes on the heels of a season in which Hammon was a strong presence with the team, sitting in on practices, film sessions and games while she rehabbed from a torn ACL.

Hammon and the Spurs organization are both very happy to join forces and expect the move to pay dividends to the already dominant world champions. Hopefully the team's move to bring Hammon into the mix opens the doors for similar moves to be made. While the idea of men and women playing in the same league is something I don't envision ever coming to light, simply because of physical make up, there is no reason why women who are knowledgeable and passionate about sports should not get the same opportunities that men receive. It's 2014 people. Let's all get on board!
