
New Netflix Documentary Sparks Interest in Lamar Odom’s Rhode Island Past
Lamar Odom is the center of the latest documentary to hit Netflix. Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom follows the success and struggle of the former basketball star.
You may remember his days playing with the L.A. Lakers or his relationship with Khloe Kardashian, but did you also know he has roots in Rhode Island?
Lamar Odom’s Time at URI
The former Laker is also a former Ram, having played for the University of Rhode Island from 1998 to 1999. Though Odom played just one season for URI, he made his presence known.
A Dominant Season in Rhode Island
He was selected for the First-Team All-Atlantic 10, Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and the Atlantic 10 Tournament MVP.
Everyone quickly knew his name and was in awe of what No. 5 could do on the court. He averaged 17.6 points per game and led the team to the conference championship.
His success didn't stop after URI. With a standout college season under his belt, he entered the NBA draft, where his success continued.

From URI to the NBA
Lamar Odom was drafted fourth in the first round, named to the All-Rookie First Team and won two NBA championships with the Lakers and was the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011.
The Netflix Documentary Spotlight
His life took a drastic turn over the past decade or so. He suffered 12 strokes, six heart attacks and was in a coma for three days. You can watch the former URI basketball standout talk about his struggles and recovery in the documentary.
