Westport Farm Stand Discovers Unusually Large Egg
In Westport, you'll find a small farmstand called Diamond Rock Farm that's tucked off Old County Road. It’s run by Kayleigh Vieira and her husband Tom, who spend their days raising a flock of Production Red chickens and sharing the results with the community.
Like many small farm owners, their routine is simple and steady. The couple picked up their hens last August, and since then, they’ve been producing about an egg a day per chicken. Nothing flashy, just fresh, local eggs done right. However, earlier this week, something very out of the ordinary showed up in the coop.
“I 100 percent have never seen an egg that size,” Vieira said.

A Nighttime Discovery Turns Heads
Vieira typically collects eggs after work, often relying on a flashlight to guide her through the evening routine. That’s when she noticed something didn’t quite add up.
“It was dark, but I had my little flashlight, and at first I thought I had two eggs in my hand until I realized it was just one giant one. It weighs about four ounces,” she said.
To put that into perspective, that’s roughly double the size of a standard chicken egg. It’s the kind of find that makes you do a double take.
Not for Sale—This One’s Personal
If you were hoping to snag this oversized egg for yourself, think again. Vieira already has plans for it, and they sound pretty perfect.
“I’m cooking it up on Saturday for breakfast,” she said. “I’m curious to see if it’s a double yolk.”

Honestly, that’s the big question. Eggs that large often come with a surprise inside, and cracking it open might be just as exciting as finding it in the first place.
More Than Just Eggs on the Way
Right now, Diamond Rock Farm keeps things simple, offering fresh eggs at their roadside stand, but that’s just the beginning. As the seasons change, the Vieiras are looking to expand what they offer to the community.
Plans are already in place to add fresh vegetables once they’re in season, along with flowers and hanging baskets to brighten up local homes and gardens.
It’s the kind of small-town setup that makes Westport feel like Westport, and every once in a while, it even comes with a story as big as that egg.
