Westport Fair Creates Scholarship to Honor Local Business Owner
The 2026 Westport Fair is honoring one of its own in a way that will carry his impact far into the future.
A new scholarship has been created in memory of Michael C. Lees II, a young business owner whose dedication to hard work, integrity, and community left a lasting impression on Westport and beyond.
Michael, the founder of Lees Landscaping & Excavation, built his life around honest work. At just 27 years old, he had already become a respected local business owner, known not only for the spaces he helped create, but for the people he helped along the way. Whether it was mentoring others, lending equipment, or simply showing up when someone needed a hand, Michael’s presence was felt across the SouthCoast.

A Legacy Rooted in Hard Work and Heart
The scholarship reflects everything Michael stood for: taking pride in your craft, giving back to your community and chasing something bigger than yourself. It will be awarded to Bristol County high school seniors pursuing studies in construction management, business, landscaping, architecture or engineering.

More importantly, it’s designed for students who embody his values: strong work ethic, community commitment and the drive to build a meaningful future through entrepreneurship.
Carrying His Name Forward
While Michael’s passing left a deep void, his influence is far from gone.
Through this scholarship, his legacy will live on in the next generation of hardworking SouthCoast students. It's designed for young people ready to follow their own path, take risks and build something lasting, just like he did.
