Wareham’s Evolving Dog Park Holding 2nd Birthday Party This Weekend
WAREHAM (WBSM) — It's been two years of four-legged friends enjoying the Wareham Dog Park, and now it’s time to celebrate.
This Sunday, DPAW – the Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham – is throwing a second birthday party for the park and those who frequent it. The party was originally scheduled for Saturday, but with rain in the forecast the decision was made to shift it to Sunday.
The party (or “pawty,” as DPAW is calling it) will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

After nine years of planning and fundraising, the Wareham Dog Park opened in April 2023. While initially some people complained about the rules of the park, over time it has become a popular destination for dogs from all over the area.

Recently, upgrades have been made to the park that include shade structures to give pups a break from the sun, agility equipment for them to play on, additional benches for the humans to sit, and two kiosks.
One of the kiosks features information about the dog park and DPAW, while the other has information about the new on-leash walking trail adjacent to the park. The second side of both kiosks will feature rotating galleries of youth creative pieces from DPAW’s annual “Unleash the PAWsibilities” art contest.
Sunday’s birthday party will begin at 1 p.m. with the “Blessing of the Dogs,” followed by the grand opening of the on-leash trail. There will be cake for the humans and free pup cups for the dogs with a topping bar. In addition to the “Unleash the PAWsibilities” youth gallery, there will also be “PAWsitive rocks painting,” according to DPAW.
Also, DPAW wants to remind those who attend that dogs must be leashed in the parking lot and on the trail area, and that no food is allowed in either of the enclosed dog areas.
