The Secret Behind Why Wareham Smells Like Garlic Bread
Fun 107's Restaurant Week brought The MGM Show down to Cranberry Highway in Wareham this morning as we broadcasted live from Persy's Place.
As we were driving to Wareham, an undeniable smell of garlic bread filled the air. We were on I-195 East, merging onto Route 25 East, when the pleasant aroma hit us.
It made us hungry before we even arrived at the restaurant.
The Source of the Garlic Smell
We mentioned it on the air, and a listener called in to reveal the source of the garlic scent: the Chatham Village crouton factory right off the highway that bakes, packages and distributes croutons around the clock. It is owned and operated by a company called T. Marzetti.
"That is for sure us that you are smelling," said Chatham Village HR Manager Raphaela Perry. "We bake croutons between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. six days a week. We only shut down on Sundays."
What Marzetti Makes in Wareham
Perry added that their Wareham location also produces Texas Toast and several other brands.
"In fact, if you're looking at the crouton shelf in a store like Stop & Shop, T. Marzetti likely makes a lot of the croutons you're seeing," she said.
What Marzetti Makes Across America
The factory's parent company, T. Marzetti, is a major food manufacturer with locations across the country, each specializing in different products. For example, its Kentucky facility is where the famous Chick-fil-A sauce is made.
The company also produces sauces for Buffalo Wild Wings, Subway and Texas Roadhouse, along with salad dressings for Olive Garden.
