If you've got an old car seat kicking around, this new event at Walmart is a great way to get rid of it.You only need a car seat for so long and then honestly, what they heck do you do with it? It's pretty much a big piece of plastic with no other purpose.

Well now just throwing it in the trash to take up space in a landfill doesn't have to be what happens to your old car seats.

That's because Walmart has teamed up with TerraCycle to collect used, outdated car seats in nearly 4,000 Walmarts across the country

I need this event so bad. When my first daughter was born a few friends gave us their old car seats. But most car seats actually expire after about six years, so the ones we got weren't good for very long. And are now just eating up space in my garage.

Not anymore.

This first-ever Walmart Car Seat Recycling Event is going on now through September 30th and I for one will be taking advantage.

Turing an old car seats into new products with the help of TerraCycle and ensuring they stay out of landfills? Yes all day.

Plus you get a gift card for it.

The deal is you bring your used car seats to the Service Desk of a participating location and they give you a $30 Walmart gift card.

What's the catch you say? Okay, there kinda of are some.

1. You can't turn in booster seats, car seats only

2. Only two car seats trade ins per household

3. The gift card can only be used on baby products

With a couple of car seats to trade in and a new baby to buy diapers for, this event is nothing but good news to me.

And there are plenty of locations locally too.

Fairhaven, North Dartmouth, Fall River and Wareham Walmarts will be collecting car seats this month.
